Nature walk with Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary
Included
A visit to Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary includes a 4.5 km guided walk takes you through a vital wildlife corridor bordering Kibale Forest. Often referred to as the “Home of the Great Blue Turaco,” the sanctuary is a haven for bird enthusiasts, with over 200 recorded species. The area is also home to eight species of primates. What makes this experience especially meaningful is that the sanctuary is fully managed by the local community. Many of the guides are young residents of Bigodi, and tourism plays a key role in supporting local livelihoods. During the walk, visitors are provided with waterproof boots to navigate the often muddy terrain. While the trail is relatively easy, some sections can be wet, with wooden boardwalks in place to assist along the way. Along the route, knowledgeable guides will point out native birds and plants, while sharing insights into how the community lives in harmony with the surrounding environment and utilizes local plant resources.
